How to Start a Conversation With a Girl

All men are comfortable talking with their guy friends.  Men share a lot of the same interests – sports, cars, women – so it’s easy to strike up a conversation with a total stranger if you happen to be sitting next to a new guy at the bar.

However, starting a conversation with a girl is a whole different story.  Women don’t always sit around talking about sports or cars, and their interests vary.  So how do you strike up a conversation with them?  Use the following tips and tricks and you’ll see success when approaching women.

Research Is The Key

Take the time to do your research. This is as simple as watching the woman of interest for two minutes before approaching her.  Try to figure out if she’s interested in something you could talk about.  For instance, if you’re at a bar and she’s drinking your favorite beer, that’s a subject you could talk about.  And, since she’s drinking the beer, she must at least like it.  Talking about something she likes is a good way to get to know a girl.

If you can’t figure out what to talk about or what she’s interested in, use props.  For example, if you meet the girl at a grocery store, ask her to help you pick out some ripe fruit.  You can chat with her while she’s helping you out and introduce yourself.  By using the fruit in the store, you start a conversation without being overly awkward.

Another idea is to talk about something you like.  If you just came from a concert, sports game, or other event, you could start a conversation by asking a girl if she was there too.  Ask her if she likes the sports team or the musician you watched. 

This way, you may find out that you share a common interest.  At the very least, it’s a conversation opener that’s more acceptable than a clichéd pick-up line.

Honesty

When all else fails, be honest.  If you can’t figure out something smooth to say, just approach the girl and say hi.  Starting a conversation with a girl can be that simple.  Compliment her while you’re at it and you’ll be good to go. 

Most girls will respond if you say something along the lines of, “You look really pretty in that dress, and I couldn’t resist coming over and saying hi.”  Most women will be flattered by such a comment and at least say hi back.  That’s a simple way to start a conversation.

Though talking with a woman will not be the same as talking with one of your guy friends, starting a conversation with a girl is not as hard as it seems.  You don’t have to talk about makeup, clothes, or celebrity gossip – all the things that men think women talk about. 

You can talk about things that interest you without turning a girl off.  Just use your powers of observation to find topics that both of you can enjoy.  And, most importantly, when starting a conversation with a girl, be yourself.
